PLYMOUTH & DISTRICT SATURDAY LEAGUE
NORTH Down are serious challengers for the Division One title after beating Civil Service 121-111.
Down had just one winning rink: Derek Gilmartin ably assisted by Andy Crane, Paddy Kearney and Gus Firth prevailed 47-17.
Sir Francis Drake A returned to winning ways beating New Plymouth 122-114. Eddie Correy led his rink of P Martin, B Hooper and B Page to a 31-16 win. Beacon gained their fourth successive win beating Mount Gold 142-105.
Down's top rink was Catchpole, Needham, Ireland and skip Peter Stapleton they won 40-18.
The only game in Division Two featured the two Cornish teams – Saltash coming out on top 132-104 over Torpoint and are now second.
Lew Abbott skipped his rink of K Spear, J Bridge and P Skinner to a 35-17 win.
City of Plymouth missed the chance to close the gap on the leading group, losing 128-104 at Lee Moor. had M Snell and his rink F Hard, M Harris and R Pearson win 36-17. Oreston beat Sir Francis Drake B 140-93.
With all the home rinks winning A Quick, J Squire, D Brailey and R Skedgell top scored 41-21.
COUNTY BOWLS
SECTION 8 completed their competitions with the Two-Wood Singles seeing Richard Catchpole of Beacon Down and Brian Mullane of City of Plymouth qualifying.
A fine effort from Brian who beat Neil Walls and Neil Hamlyn on their own green.
County finals take place with locally four-wood singles at Whiteford Road and rinks at.
