OLD Techs could end up as also-rans in the race for promotion from Devon Two, according to team spokesman Shaun Bedford-Smith.

Bedford-Smith – also a player with the fourth placed team – nominated Dartmouth as the club to go up to Devon One via the second promotion slot.

The first slot is occupied by all-conquering Exeter University, who have yet to be beaten this season.

Techs take on Plympton Victoria at Weston Mill tomorrow (2.30) in a potentially gruelling local derby.

Bedford-Smith said: "It's a game we should be looking to win, but they're a team which can cause you problems on the day."

Bedford-Smith added: "It's another game we can't afford to take lightly – every match we've got to try to win if we want to have a chance of going up.

"They (Plympton Victoria) are very capable of causing an upset and Ilfracombe nearly came unstuck against them last weekend.

"We've got an outside chance of promotion, but my personal feeling at the moment is that Dartmouth might do it."

DEVONPORT High School Old Boys' chief Mike Freeman will keep faith with last week's winning line-up for tomorrow's Devon Two clash with visiting Dartmouth.

The Old Boys claimed a 9-3 victory at Buckfastleigh last Saturday – their points coming via the reliable kicking boot of Alex Buckley.

Freeman said: "It was great to get a win under our belts and, fair play to the lads, they deserve another chance against Dartmouth who are doing well in the league this season.

"We've been what I would call consistently inconsistent in our performances and thus, our results.

"But, we're at home and the seconds (Wizards) are also playing at Stonehouse Creek, so hopefully, we can create a good atmosphere and some points."

The Wizards entertain OPMs II, also with a 2.30pm kick-off, in a Devon Merit Table match.

Freeman said in light of England taking on Scotland, at Murrayfield, in their opening Six Nations encounter, there will be a Scottish theme in the clubhouse afterwards, where the Calcutta Cup clash can be watched on the Old Boys TV (5pm kick-off).

Tamar Saracens, meanwhile, travel to Ilfracombe.
