A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and released on police bail until 21st November pending further enquiries.

The attack happened on bank holiday Monday at around 1am on Rendle Street. A lone female was dragged into a service lane and assaulted before fighting the attacker of and fleeing to nearby Alice Street.

Three potential witnesses were in the area prior to the attack, and have been captured on CCTV walking along Rendle Street towards the victim and the offender. It's believed that although these people did not witneess the assault itself, they may have seen the victim and the offender stood together near to wall surrounding Larry Spear's car park. Police are keen to talk to them as they may have important information.

During the attack the victim screamed several times and may have shouted for help from the service lane. The police are also appealing to anyone who may have heard these cries.
