Michael Brincat, 76, was found dead at Marlborough House, Granby Way, Devonport on 6 February. A forensic post mortem confirmed that it was a suspicious death
The arrest followed the suspicious death of Michael Brincat, 76, who was found dead on Wednesday 6 February at a residential flat at Marlborough House on Granby Way in Devonport.
Initially the incident was treated as an unexplained death. However results from a forensic post mortem confirmed that it was a suspicious death.
A murder enquiry was launched on Tuesday 12 February.
Early this morning (Friday 15 February) a 52-year-old man from the Devonport area was arrested on suspicion of murder. He is now in police custody where he is being interviewed by detectives.
Detective Superintendent Paul Burgan, who's leading the investigation, said: "While this is a significant development in the investigation, I want to be clear that there are still a number of lines of enquiry to be completed and this investigation is very much ongoing.
"I would still like to appeal to local people to come forward if they have any information, no matter how insignificant they think it might be.
"Especially relevant, are Michael's movements on Tuesday 5 February, when he was last seen alive at about 10.15am at his home address of 55 Marlborough House. Any sightings of Michael around that time would be particularly helpful."
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote reference ED/13/718. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
