LIBERAL DEMOCRATS

LIBERAL Democrat councillors elected will oppose the incinerator. The party says Plymouth “has a terrible record on recycling, and that needs to be sorted before we start burning our waste”.

We will expand the range of things that residents can recycle, and we will put recycling bins throughout the city centre.

We will also oppose the breaking up of old nuclear submarines at Devonport. This city needs a greener future, not one built on dealing with the waste and detritus of others.

There is far too much spending by the council that serves little public purpose. Lib Dems on the council will be able to go through the budget line-by-line and root this out. We will start by getting rid of the free mobile phones for councillors.

No Lib Dem-controlled council anywhere has closed a single library or closed a single children’s centre. Plymouth Lib Dems would make similar guarantees for local libraries and children’s centres.

We will protect and where possible expand Plymouth’s parks, woods and green spaces. We will also seek to create more allotment sites, cutting the very long waiting list for a plot.

We want to improve the city’s transport system. We will prioritise fixing potholes permanently and we will use new powers to regulate roadworks.

Local Lib Dems regret the Conservatives’ sell-off of Citybus; we are now seeing services being cut, which is what we warned would happen. Lib Dems would reform the residents’ parking system and work with the University of Plymouth to discourage students from bringing cars to the city.
