Hundreds of soldiers from the Rifles plan to march through Plymouth next year.

The Plymouth Herald has reported that the soldiers are planning to exercise the Freedom of the City of Plymouth for the first time since the honour was granted to The Rifles.

A provisional date is scheduled for September next year depending on operational commitments.

Brigadier Jolyon Jackson, the South West Colonel of The Rifles, said it will be a "privilege" and an "honour" to march through the heart of Plymouth.

A number of soldiers from The Rifles have recently been killed on duty in Afghanistan. The latest to be named was Rifleman Aminiasi Toge (pictured above).

To pay tribute to him, or any of his fallen colleagues from the Rifles, visit this section of Lasting Tribute.

There are tributes for all the soldiers who have died while serving in Afghanistan - see Heroes of Afghanistan on Lasting Tribute.
