Swans in Safe Hands

The swans of North Corner continue to be looked after by their unofficial minder, Phil Head, landlord of the historic Steam Packet Inn.
Phil has been keeping an eye on the swans ever since he took over the pub and is respected by locals for the effort he takes over their welfare. Recently one of the swans was obviously ill, so Phil telephoned the RSPB who came immediately to North Corner to inspect the birds. Phil said “they've taken the swan to the vet and it seems it will be placed, temporarily, in the nearest Swannery while it recovers. It’s a shame to see its partner left alone as the swans mate for life, and we are well used to them here at North Corner - but hopefully, it will be back where it belongs real soon.”
“The swans have a positive effect on the local children around here” said Phil. “One lad in particular who is known for being difficult has a soft spot for them, his affection for the birds helps to calm his behaviour. When the sick one was removed by the RSPB recently the boy was very upset, so I make sure to keep him updated on the swan’s progress.”
Keep up the good work Phil. If you want to read more about historic North Corner, the 200-year old pub, and Phil, my book ‘The Steam Packet Inn’ is available as a free download. I’ve converted it to a PDF file and uploaded it to http://devonportonline.co.uk/history/buildings_historic/steam-packet.aspx.

I have seen the swans walk right up the street! Once they made it to the top of the road and they had to call Phil from the Steam Packet Inn to come get them as he seems to have a strange way with the swans even though they really are wild! I love them, I have seen them swim around Mutton Cove as well.
