A flippin’ good time at pancake day events

CHILDREN in Plymouth enjoyed cooking up a treat with a variety of tasty activities for Pancake Day.
Primary schools across the city organised special events for yesterday’s Shrove Tuesday.
At St Joseph’s Primary School in Devonport there was a pancake race on the school field. All 114 children at the school ran across the field, tossing their pancakes in frying pans as parents looked on.
Headteacher Brendan Gill said: “It was very good. We did it for fun.
“Pancake Day is a tradition which seems to be on the wane so we wanted to maintain it as an event where the children can learn about their own culture.”
A dozen kind-hearted pupils from Laira Green Primary School went along to Manor Court Residential Home in Efford to make a ‘rainbow’ of pancakes.
The pancakes were dyed with various colours for the residents so a ‘bit of colour could be brought in for springtime’.
Joan Collins, business manager at the home, said: “It was a lovely day. The children also combined making pancakes with technology – they played Wii games with the residents.”
