A NEW Foot Care school will be opening this summer to offer training for new jobs.

The Foot Care practitioners course is being launched by lead tutor Dr Mark Couchman, a trained podiatrist.

The course, beginning on July 1, will lead to a Foot Care practitioners diploma. The first six months will be theoretical training followed by an additional four months of practical training.

Dr Couchman said: “I trained at the Plymouth School of Podiatry, which is part of the university. This is the step below which will give students the grounding and prepare them for the university course.

“We hope to train 15 students from different backgrounds. It’s an opportunity for either people who are unemployed to train for a new career or school leavers to take up a new profession.”

The course will be held at the Welcome Hall on Fore Street, Devonport.

Dr Couchman said the course will cost around £1,300.

He said: “Students will be qualified as a foot health practitioner and qualified to treat a variety of foot disorders or go on to university to become a full-time podiatrist.”
